Fred Business News - For months we've been hearing how gasoline subsidies or price controls in places like China and India are artificially fueling demand there. Being that oil is a global market, rising demand overseas is one reason prices have risen here in the U.S.

Those subsidies are now being trimmed, as soaring crude prices make it increasingly difficult for governments to foot the bill. In recent weeks China, India, Indonesia, and Iran - countries where the government sets the price of gas - have ...   more »

Dakota County Judge Robert King Jr. ordered Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Monday to pay $6.5 million in compensatory damages, but Wal-Mart could end up paying much more than that after a jury in October considers civil penalties and punitive damages.

View Article  Fred Business News - Senate holiday on housing rescue

Fred Business News  -After failing to approve an omninbus housing rescue package this week, the Senate is scheduled take up the bipartisan-supported bill again the week of July 7.

What dragged the bill down this week had little to do with the substance of foreclosure relief. Instead it was stymied by a procedural maneuver on Wednesday by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., who is pushing a series of energy tax breaks, and a backlog of legislation that the Senate was scrambling to complete before its July 4 recess.
